MEGADETH, Testament and Slayer

This was quite the night, I now have a head ache, and my neck hurts from all the head banging. But you know what, its a good kind of pain. I went to the long-delayed Megadeth concert (delayed since November '09 =[ ) and boy it was pretty awesome.

Testament opened, we ran kindve late so I did miss a few songs, but I swear they performed just as I expected. I've always liked Testament, mostly for their guitarist and he was great. Definitely banged my head a lot there.

Then came MEGADETH, now this was the best part of the concert for me. Megadeth was AMAZING, they played an AMAZING set list, with ALL of my favorite album (RUSH IN PEACE \m/) along with some other GREAT choices. Other than this, their musicianship was amazing and they had a some what graceful stage presence. Chris Broderick is absolutely mindblowingly fantastically amazing. I banged my head during this like no tomorrow, it was great.

Then came SLAYER, a huge band them selves that I have never been as familiar with nor as much of a fan. To be 100% honest, I kindve found Slayer a bit repetitive, and most of the songs I've heard from them they didn't actually play. Non-the-less, they were great. I enjoyed them and I can definitely appreciate them being one of the absolute biggest names in metal. Slayer was pure head banging, my neck hurt too much from Megadeth for me to do much, but it was pure head banging it just made you want to head bang. At least for the first few songs :p

The crowd was definately a Slayer crowd though, they loved Slayer like no tomorrow. Megadeth was also loved but definately to a smaller extent, just exiting the theatre to shouts of SLAYER, SLAYER etc kindve worked as a TESTAMENT (see what I did there) to this fact.

Slayer was loud. I swear it. I wore ear phones for Testament and Slayer, I could still hear fine but I wanted to preserve my hearing. Slayer was darn darn darn loud. And it was pretty cool because they had the classic Marshall stack wall behind them (18 Marshall cabs stacked behind the players) and of course since there were 2 guitarists, they were running 36 cabs which is retarded in addition to the speakers >.>

None of the bands had an AMAZING set it self, since really theres 2 huge bands and 1 pretty large one so its hard to do something like the Maiden or Rush concert were 1 band was headlining or what ever, but the sets worked and the lighting was pretty cool.

It was great to see David Ellefson back in Megadeth, he played some really cool bass parts and a lot of times he was alone on stage. Right before Peace sells he came out alone and was like ARE YOU STILL WITH US TORONTO *breaks into song* pretty awesome :) \m/ rock on Dave and David \m//

Even though I told myself I'm not going to buy another shirt, I ended up doing that just because of how awesome Megadeth is ;)

I'll be honest, I don't think any concert again will ever be like my first concert with Maiden because that was just speechlessly amazing I can't even describe the experience. How ever, this Megadeth/Slayer concert definitely had a similar feel in the sense that there was some great energy around. Looking around and seeing so many Slayer fans pumping their fists and head banging to a crazy extent was something. Not the same as seeing hundreds of lighters during Fear of the dark, but definitely something.

You know, a lot of people get scared of like Slayer fans and stuff, but really they aren't bad at all. Every person I met today, or bumped into just turned around with a massive smile, pumped their devil fists and yelled SLAYYERRR or ROCK ON or what ever. Watching them interact with others was a similar experience. It is its own culture, a culture that is often mis understood and mis termed by others who aren't part of it and don't understand what it means to be a heavy metal fan. Now personally, I admit I'm more of a Classic rock or what ever guy, but I can definitely understand the way these people feel and I often feel with them, I enjoy their presence. Don't be too scared of people like this my friends, there isn't much chance of them being worse than many others you may see.

Testament setlist: (I wish I didn't miss the first 2 songs ='[ ] (we were RIGHT outside in the cue, it was so QQ because we could just hear it and yeah lol )

The "right" road

My English Short story assignment, a potentially true masterpiece. =)

This was written a long time ago, so please forgive my incompetence! I swear I've become a slightly better writer (in terms of grammar). I just didn't want to edit/change anything to keep its authenticity!

===========================================================

The wind rustled Zammar’s silky black hair as the prairie landscape flashed by on his sides. He travelled fast atop his shining white mare, a form of travel that was now a common habit, and requiring no thought on his par. Riding became a second action, and his mind was free to ponder. Thoughts raced through his head faster than his mare through the prairie landscape.

“Which one..?” his train of thought was interrupted by the creaking of his shining armour, cursing at this hindering inconvenience that was forced upon him by his overprotective mother, Zammar stood up, his feet steadily planted upon his moving mares back. He hurriedly removed the armour, tossing it to the ground to expose a bare chest. The sun glistened off his jostling muscles, creating a reflection of his eight-pack abdominals upon the still puddles on the road.

Settling back down, Zammar noticed from the awed stares of the women that he was presently riding through a village. The women reminded Zammar of the one thing he had never had: true love, all women had been too intimidated by his bulging muscles and superior intellect, rejecting him on the account of being far inferior to his superior being. Despite his physical greatness, Zammar dreamt of a wife he could love with all his heart. This moment of emotional pain drew him back to his previous thoughts.
Which one to rescue? They were both princesses, both inherited royal blood, both lived a royal life and had a caring family. Both were at the age to marry. Zammar felt his deathly hourglass tick closer, and saw it through his keen eyesight. The fatal crossing approached from a distance, a fork that divided the road into two. The left road would lead him to Princess Bolga, a hulking woman with immense power, both politically and physically. Loved by her people, she controlled an entire kingdom independently. The right road would take him to Princess Florence, a beautiful angel on earth whose auburn hair and slender form were the envy of woman-a-many. Florence was however, a princess that had no power under her father; she was loved by none but family and infatuated men, how ever she was also hated by none but jealous housewives and women. As the crossroad fast approached, the pressure built on Zammar. He was unable to rescue both princesses, as the threatened execution time fast approached, leaving no room to return for the other. Zammar was faced with a situation of playing god and choosing who lives and who dies. Despite hours dwelling over this, Zammar’s decision was made in a second.

“I must turn left and rescue Princess Bolga, rescuing her is necessary for the survival of many, not to mention her popularity amongst the people,” he said out loud as if to confirm to himself, despite his intense guilt, he knew that this was best.
With his decision set, Zammar rode on, allowing the wind to rustle his hair and tickle his muscular back. After what seemed like only a few seconds, he found himself at the crossroad. Without hesitation or thought at all, Zammar turned right. His mind was blank as he raced down the road, an invisible force driving him onwards. It was not long before he reached the towering castle where the princess was held hostage. Leaping off his mare in a flash of grace, Zammar ran on until he stood beneath the massive gates. These he pulled open easily and continued on into the dark dreary interior.

It was not long before he spotted the guardian, a dragon routinely pacing the halls. It would have been easy for him to wring its wide neck and penetrate its thick hide utilising his muscles, however he chose not to, his reasoning being that dragons were an endangered species. He tip toed to the Princess chamber. Slowly he opened the door, so as not to startle the princess. His efforts were however, wasted. The shock of the princess as she saw this muscular, manly and exceptionally handsome man walk in was beyond that of description. The two lost themselves in the eyes of the other, Zammar in a tempest of love and the princess in a blinding shock at the change in her perception of reality. This state of consciousness lasted for a full minute before Zammar boldly broke the silence.

“Princess, we must be off”

“y-yes” stammered the princess

The two exited the room however; the unathletic princess was unable to keep up with Zammar’s long stride. She soon stumbled and fell to her knees, gasping for breath. At this same moment, a deep roar sounded within the lower hall ways. Realizing the urgency of the situation, Zammar grabbed the princess, and flinging her over his shoulders, he ran on as if he were unburdened. Suddenly, he felt a flash of heat behind him and craning his neck, he saw the dragon giving chase. Zammar’s muscles tensed and he heard the slightest squeal. He increased his speed, caring only to rescue his beautiful, shining star. After what seemed like an eternity, Zammar jumped out the open gates, leaving the dragon close behind in his lair, unable to pursue any farther at risk of being seen and hunted.

“I’m going to return you to your people Princess and then maybe we can you know, go out some time and it’ll be great!” There was no reply. As realization struck, Zammar dropped the limp, tender body with a thud. It remained unchanged in beauty despite being internally crushed between Zammar’s bulging biceps. As he fell on his knees in tears, an execution horn sounded far in the distance.

RUSH

I Just got back from, an AMAZING concert.

This time,it was RUSH!!!!
Also one of my favourite bands, this was an amazing concert.

It was also a bit different, because it was really a LOT more music oriented than energy oriented. I found myself, instead of pumping my fists in the air and banging my head, sitting in my chair, tapping my foot and singing a long.

There really was a lot more sitting down, but thats not a bad thing!

Great concert!! Geddys' bass was so dominant and awesome, his singing was great too. He did a lot of improvised stuff in a lot of the songs, which was great as well. It really was a site to see, like you notice him so much as a bassist and as a bandleader, hes such a vital part of this band and what an amazing band it is.

Neal Pearts drumming. That left me speechless. He did this 10 minute solo, which reminded me that he is not human. He makes it look SO easy with his experessionless drumming and sticks flying everywhere but really. That drum solo reminded me that he is the best drummer in the world. He isn't my favourite (Nicko), but I must say that he is the best. His drumming during the songs was also really crazy, all those amazing drum fills and those beats were very very him-ish lol

ALEX LIFESON has to be one of the most underrated guitarists of all time, the guy is brilliant. he did this 12 string accoustic solo (think of Hope, but different) that led into Closer to the Heart. His solos during the songs were so smooth and beautiful. He has this way of just finding his own spot in the song, where his solo just completely stands out. I cannot imagine Rush without Alex, he really is an amazing guitarist

They even played 2 new songs from their next album which sounded pretty great, I was mind blown at the heaviness of the first one.

One of the cool and interesting things about this concert, was that it was ONLY Rush that played, no supporting bands or anything. They played 26 songs in all, with a ton of classics. The crowd was generally less varied than the Maiden crowd, with a lot of older people. There were TONS of families. Remember that there was an age when EVERYBODY was listening to Rush, this is what they grew up on. Oh, the good old days =p There was how ever a lot of different cultures, Indians, Asians, blacks, everything :p

The set was pretty cool, but I didn't like it as much as the Maiden one, the lighting show was brilliant. I dunno if it was the venue or the band it self, but that was some great lighting! There were Pyros, random (and loud) fireworks and all these seizure-inducing lights, great!!! They also had some REALLY funny, and really COOL videos playing which was great.

There was one bit of an iffy part, during YYZ, Alex's guitar went like CRAZY feed back, they kept playing and the poor guy was doing everything he could to stop it but nothing seemed to work. It continued to the end, and then the sound dudes turned his volume off so that the intro to Limelight was basically just bass and drums. And then it was fixed and it seemed great.

On that note, I swear he used like 8 different guitars tonight!! D=

This was a really good concert and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Rush is definitely an amazing band.

Jesus Christ!!

I think I might be a bit late on realizing this, but I realized it last night while lying around in bed

This man you see in this picture, he has become engraved into our minds as the figure of Jesus Christ. It must have over time, become the most easily recognizable face on the whole planet, show this picture to anyone and they'll instantly say thats Jesus!

But I realized last night, that this was probably nothing what he looked like. Think about it, Jesus was from the Middle East, so he would look more like you know, a Middle Eastern dude. Darker skin, darker hair, probably shorter, shorter beard too who knows. So why does he look like this?

Well, we probably have the Rennaisance painters to place some direct blame on, people like Michaelangelo and Leonardo that painted Jesus as if he were an Italian like he themselves. Because seriously, these paintings make Jesus look Italian, admit it. On top of this of course, thanks to the Crusades and so on, the Church would probably not have wanted to remind all their followers that they're praying to a brown-ish jew, painting a picture of a "perfect man" a definition that is so subjective that it really becomes invalid.

But imagine my friends how different the world would be if he were portrayed as he truly were. Would racism be completely eradicated? After all, the "most perfect man" was brown? Would it be white people that would suffer the short end of the stick, or would Christianity still even exist because people would find it invalid with racist beliefs.

Our entire default definition of perfect would be changed, Jesus existed as a basis for every man to be judged against, he was always considered perfect. Imagine how different history would be if Jesus was seen differently?

I hope this wasn't offensive to any body in anyways. Of course one can say that Jesus was specially created by God, but why would god make him different from every body else in anyway? Implying that white man is superior? =/

New Guitar! and Justin Bieber, korea? o.o

Sooo!!! 2 days ago, on the 8th of July, I got me new Guitar!! It finally arrived after like a looong 2 month made and it's half-custom. Haven't been able to put it down since, so beautiful and awesome =] <3 I should upload pictures but I'm not going to =]

I need a name for it...

Also, recently there has been a lot of craze about this whole Justin Bieber going to North Korea thing. I realize that it was a fake contest and hes using that as an excuse to not actually go

But its kindve funny that every body voted for him to go there. I think most people don't realize that if Justin Bieber went to North Korea and came back (which he would), he would honestly be more of a hero then anything. Really, like the first foreign musician to go into that country? Yeah.

Not really a Justin Bieber fan here, I can't stand his music to be honest. But I can appreciate him for trying and I feel bad for him getting so internet bullied.

Also, North Korea, a communist nation? Really?
Come on guys, its called the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea"

It just happens to have only one party to vote for... =]

AND HAPPPY BIRTHDAY to Nikola Tesla, one of my heros. This guy was amazing

A human potential to hate

I've only just completed my 2nd year of high school, gr.10. It really has been a great year with many fun events and memories. However, this year has had a difference significance to me, through the year, my eyes have been opened to the dormant hate that every body has.

I have always lived my life with a very balanced view. I believe that there is an equal amount of good and bad in every single person. For every bad trait, there is a good trait of equal value. This would include everything about the person, physical appearance, emotions, personality, everything. A very basic example using school subjects would be the typical, one person is amazing at art but only average at math as opposed to someone who is amazing at math and horrible at art.

I've always lived my life with this ideology, and it has always affected the decisions I make. I simply believe that the good qualities of each person do not suit me, and simply go against what I believe, but never that they are a bad person. Never have I thought to myself seriously: "Wow, he is stupid." Or "She is attractive" It has always been more like "What that person lacks in Math, he makes up for easily in his intra personal logical thought" or, "I don't really find her attractive, but I know someone out there does" etc.

I've never really judged any body badly for what they do, or how they act. If someone behaves badly in front of me, I simply shrug it off, and think about how they have other good qualities. They always do. And never have I felt that I was unique in this viewpoint.

However, through out gr.10, I have realized just how different the ideologies of most people are. Most people, I find never give others a true chance. Many people make an initial impression, often upon appearance or simply one single incident. They create an entire personality of who they think the person is with this and while the personality can be changed, it usually isn't because they do not give the person a second chance.

I've learnt this through simply opening my eyes to all the hate that floats around. I observe people observing others, or I payed attention in Ms. Chos' class when she asked about first impressions. I really came to the same conclusion, every body seems to have an opinion of people, every body seems to be so critical of others, many often over look their own flaws, they often over exaggerate their own flaws as well as the other persons flaws just as they forget about their own good traits or the other persons.

I've also come to realize how easily amazing things can be lost. When someone is such a good friend of yours, and you come to realize all of the good traits they have and how those traits suit you, a single bad trait showing up will often erase those good traits completely. This is probably how most friend ships, and most relationships end. While this is fair, we mustn't forget, that no body is perfect. And on top of that, no body is above any body else. It's just like they say, when you lose your hearing, your eye sight gets better (They say that, right? D= )

This blog post has no flow, and I guess its probably mainly incoherent rambling.

What I'm trying to say, my friends is that there is no bad and there is no good. Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is goodness and evil. While there are traits that are surely only good, or only evil. There is an equal amount of these traits in each person. It is this equalization that creates a balance in our society, it is this equalization that makes us perfect, after all - without bad, what is good?

Next time you see that person you aren't so fond off, think to yourself about why every body who is fond of that person is. There is always a good trait, one just needs to find and usually, one doesn't need to search deep either.

His most joyous night

First off, I should say that I do not plan on making this blog a raging inferno of me fanboying about my favorite bands. It's just that tonight, the night I create this blog, I also experienced one of the greatest and most significant events of my life, and thus that is what I shall go on a rampage about.

July 3rd, 2010 - The day I saw Iron Maiden live for the first time.

Iron Maiden, my absolute favorite band of all time, live.
YES!
Along with Dream Theater, one of my favourite bands, what a night

And then all my good friends; Benny, Ricky, Vinashan, Michael and his brother, my brother...

We met at my house, and watched the Spain vs Paraguay game. Leaving at around 4 for the concert. Once we got there, we just hung around going to different places and kindve trying to figure a lot of stuff out. I bought an Iron Maiden shirt ($40, but worth it!) and a Maiden poster ($10, cheaper than at HMV =] )

By maybe 6:30, we were in the concert and seated. Dream Theater started at exactly 6:58

I remember Labrie just walking on and then the whole band breaking into As I am, and thus the head banging begun. Dream Theater did definitely play well and I really enjoyed them.

And then started IRON MAIDEN. What an amazing time, Adrian and Dave just walking on and bursting into The Wickerman.

I was pleasantly surprised that they played songs such as Ghost of the Navigator and No More Lies, they missed out some fan favorites, but I don't mind one bit. It was amazing. I spent most of the time absolutely banging my head off, pumping my arms with the \m/ sign, clapping high in the air and generally yelling strange but awesome comments "JANNNIIICKKKKKKK, SOLOO EEETTTT" etc.

The best thing about rock concerts is really the atmosphere, its so amazing and impossible to describe. I looked around me, and saw over 10'000 fists in the air, people yelling out lyrics and generally having an AMAZING time during songs like Wrathchild and Benjamin Breeg. Or I looked around me, and I saw waving hands and lit lighters during songs like Dance of Death and Blood Brothers. I sung my heart out at this concert, I love this band to death, they really touch me.

But as I looked around and experienced this, that I realized more than being a rock band, this is a culture. It's impossible to describe this any farther, one would have to experience it them selves. Absolutely amazing experience.
