Jesus Christ!!
I think I might be a bit late on realizing this, but I realized it last night while lying around in bed
This man you see in this picture, he has become engraved into our minds as the figure of Jesus Christ. It must have over time, become the most easily recognizable face on the whole planet, show this picture to anyone and they'll instantly say thats Jesus!
But I realized last night, that this was probably nothing what he looked like. Think about it, Jesus was from the Middle East, so he would look more like you know, a Middle Eastern dude. Darker skin, darker hair, probably shorter, shorter beard too who knows. So why does he look like this?
Well, we probably have the Rennaisance painters to place some direct blame on, people like Michaelangelo and Leonardo that painted Jesus as if he were an Italian like he themselves. Because seriously, these paintings make Jesus look Italian, admit it. On top of this of course, thanks to the Crusades and so on, the Church would probably not have wanted to remind all their followers that they're praying to a brown-ish jew, painting a picture of a "perfect man" a definition that is so subjective that it really becomes invalid.
But imagine my friends how different the world would be if he were portrayed as he truly were. Would racism be completely eradicated? After all, the "most perfect man" was brown? Would it be white people that would suffer the short end of the stick, or would Christianity still even exist because people would find it invalid with racist beliefs.
Our entire default definition of perfect would be changed, Jesus existed as a basis for every man to be judged against, he was always considered perfect. Imagine how different history would be if Jesus was seen differently?
I hope this wasn't offensive to any body in anyways. Of course one can say that Jesus was specially created by God, but why would god make him different from every body else in anyway? Implying that white man is superior? =/
